Isopimaric acid is a potent opener of large conductance Ca²⁺-activated K⁺ (BK) channels. 1 μM of Isopimaric acid doubles the current carried via BK channels. Isopimaric acid may increase the open probability by shifting the Ca²⁺ and voltage dependence to more hyperpolarized voltages¹. The sensitivity is decreased in the Xenopus system compared to mammalian cells. BK channels activated by Isopimaric acid retain their charybdotoxin sensitivity.
